The Mash

The brief for this project was simply “somewhere to drink whisky and entertain clients”.

With no real direction from the client and no overall design or specification to work from we decided to go back to bare brick and then produce something cosy and inviting for our client that was both functional and aesthetically appealing.

We had some logistical hurdles to overcome, these included a fully-booked Air B&B next door, which meant that minimising noise was a top priority so as not to upset the neighbours, space for waste removal and access to the 1st floor was extremely challenging due to the very narrow staircase and the fact that the property is situated on a busy main road with no parking meant we had to resort to using our yard to base our skip for waste removal.

We worked closely with John, from Bassman Designs who created the branding for ‘The Mash’, on the colour scheme and on the finishing touches, including the big red Glenfarclas Warehouse Door, the beautiful Southport Whisky Club branded mirror and the vinyl graphics for the walls.

We are delighted with the result and luckily so was the client! They have subsequently had people from all over the country and even overseas visit ‘The Mash’ including brand ambassadors and even Master Distillers from some of the best distilleries in Scotland that have come to host special events in this bespoke space designed from no more than “somewhere to drink”.

A huge thank you to Southport Whisky Club for allowing Dan Jones Joinery & Building to have free reign on this project… it’s safe to say we delivered.

Project time: 5 weeks
